So You Want To Be An RPG Artist?

Atomic Rocket Games is always on the lookout for new and exciting artistic talent. We are happy to take a look at your art and give you honest, constructive feedback. However, before you send us your stuff, be aware of the following:

  • We are not currently taking unsolicited submissions for our projects.
  • Due to the nature of our agreement with R. Talsorian Games, we cannot sell our Mekton Mini Campaigns, and thus, are unable to offer paid work for those projects.
  • Our non-Mekton work, when artistic positions are available, will be offered to those individuals who show the ability to work under tight deadlines, follow written and verbal direction exceptionally, and have shown the ability to produce high quality work with minimal "do overs."

ARG prides itself on its honest and open nature. We understand that the artists and writers of the RPG industry often have incredibly hard times making a first step into the industry. You can count on us to always be straight with you when it comes to your submissions. Now, if you've read all this and you still want to show us what you've got, remember the following:

  • ARG takes digital submissions only. Please check our contact page for our e-mail address.
  • All submissions should be submitted in .gif, .jpg, or .png format only.
  • If we like your work, and we want to see more, we will contact you and request more information.
  • If you are looking for critique, please say so. We will provide honest, constructive, criticism. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

Here are a few tips to remember about submitting art:

  • Always be polite. A few intelligent words in your e-mail detailing what you want to do with your art go a long way.
  • Always be receptive. If someone tells you that you might want to focus on cleaning up your line-work, it might pay to listen.
  • Always be prompt. If you send us something, and we ask to see more, get cracking! The faster you reply, the more impressed we will be.
  • Be experimental. Don't get locked into one style or pattern with your work. Don't be afraid to "topple the apple cart," as it were.
  • Be bold. If you want work on a project more than anything else in the world, tell us why you're the best. Better yet, show us.

What are some good things to submit? Good question. In general, we (and other RPG folks) will want to see that you have a good command of anatomy, natural life, technical/mechanical concepts, motion/action, color theory, or all five. A good first draft would be:

  • A "Turnaround" chart of a male and a female character (nude or clothed), giant robot, etc.
  • An "Action" shot of the character(s) from the Turnaround.
  • A few renderings/illustrations of some kind of animal, plant life, or landscape.
  • Perspective shots of any of the above.
  • Action poses, with dynamic and fluid motion, showing your command of the subject matter.

Now you know what we want, what are you waiting for?
