Notes: The RTX-70 Raptor is an improved version of the RTX-60. Like the
V Raptor and Raptor X, the Rapter Vernier is a modification of the standard
Raptor frame. However, the RTX-70 is superior to both the V Raptor, and
Raptor X, even though it is the closest to the origonal Raptor design. The
Raptor Vernier is designed for long range space and high atmosphere combat,
and packs a new 30mm autocannon, supurb manuvering power, a powerful
antimatter reactor, and VR controls. Although it's one of the fastest mecha
on the ground, it is fairly slow, though highly agile, in the air.

Notes: The Raptor Ironclad Armor is basically a suit of armor for Raptor

Notes: The space booster, used by both the ITR and the GSC, provides mecha with
the ability to travel the great distances of space. The sublight drive,
capible of sustaining a speed of 3 AUs per day, as well as a diverdrive mechanism,
enabling it to jump to distant star systems at a speed of 3 lightyears per day.
Normally, warships carry one space booster for every five space worthy mecha.
The mecha is possitioned outside at the front of the booster, so it may be hit
by enemy fire. There is a 50% chance the mecha will be hit on random attacks, but

Notes: The Cheval is the result of the French powered armor initiative. This unit was
designed based on the information leaked to the French by their agent in the UN's
Caiman design team. The Cheval is lighter and has a higher power to mass ratio than
the proposed Caiman design. This unit, like the Caiman, was designed with an
interchangable shoulder mount to allow the unit to rapidly change roles as
battlefield conditions dictate. Most Chevals carry missile packs in the shoulder
mount, and the unit was designed with long-range sensors and missile guidance
systems.
The Europan unit has effectively used the Howler long-range missile packs in
hit-and-run attacks on German surface vehicles and work details. The Germans have
been expanding their defensive perimeter by bringing in more autosentries, but it
has been an expensive process. The raiding units are typically comprised of five
armors, one with a Screamer short range missile pack in case they are intercepted.
The distinctive snout on the helmet is caused by the missile guidance systems and
sensors. The pilots are often called "Chevaliers", (which, to be honest, they
encourage), and many units incorporate horses into their insignia. The Europan
armors have a gold chess knight under their tricolor. After adaptation for Europan
conditions, the cost for each Cheval is 39.4 CP.

replacing the mortar. At this time, no details are available, and it is unclear
whether these are field modifications or official variants.
The Schreck is based on two different but related designs. A French agent obtained
information on an early UN power armor design, but was turned and sold the
data to the Germans, along with the code sets being used by the French program. The
Germans were able to hack into the French system and get information on the French
design before their new agent was compromised and the codes changed. The Schreck is
as fast as the Cheval, but sacrifices some agility for improved protection.
The Shreck has seen action on Europa in both offensive and defensive roles, and is
often seen on patrol in Bavaria and southern Germany. The Europan units are part of
a special production run, and bear a distinctive white and pale blue camouflage
design.

Notes: The Gecko's Combat Rifle is a sub-sonic gauss weapon. Its projectiles travel 20
hexes per turn when using the optional Projectile Travel Time rule.
This is the unit built by Dr. Durutti's team and used in the retaliatory strike
against the 9th Brigade. This unit has several unique design features which were not
continued in later designs. One of Durutti's ideas was to design the wheels like a
mouse ball. The 5h wheels were spherical and are retracted into the foot when not in
use. The original models used two motors to drive the wheels. One motor drove the
wheel forward or backward, the other side to side. This design proved to be prone to
breakdown, and was replaced with a more conventional design in later models.
As the unit was designed as a sort of improved infantry armor, it was intended to
work in close quarters and inside buildings. The unit has thick rubberized soles on
its feet to reduce noise, improve traction, and cut down on damage to floors and
vehicles.
Some of the units in the original raid used an experimental weapon for dealing with
armored vehicles. The Rocket Hammer's pointed head is driven by a small solid-fuel
booster (apparently Dr. Durutti was a big fan of Battle Angel). The booster is fired
by a trigger bar on the hammer's shaft to increase the force of impact. The
combination of high impact speed, high mass, and small impact area make it very
effective against armor. Even so, the Rocket Hammer was phased out due to its great
weight. When needed, the Gecko's armament may be supplemented by a supply of limpet
mines.

Most of the Geckos seen in service now are from the later CNT-37-ST (Space Type)
series, which were produced in large numbers. The CNT series is no longer in
production, but the sheer number produced ensures that it will be in service for a
long time. The Gecko is usually used in security or light support roles. It has
mainly been phased out of front line duty, except in low-threat environments. It is
often seen aboard UN spacecraft and in the UN colonies.
GVRA-Bolivar (18.242 CP)
A similar unit is produced in Cuba and is used throughout Latin America.
The Bolivar is so similar to the Gecko that it is widely believed a member
of Durutti's team leaked the design to the Cubans. The Bolivar reduces cost
(18.242 CP) by using the more readily available power cells instead of the
reactor used in the Gecko. It also replaces the Combat Rifle with a rapid
fire chain gun firing caseless ammunition. The Chain Gun is supposed to be
loaded with tracer ammo to help the user compensate for the vicious recoil,
but it is often loaded with regular ammo to save money (17.978 CP with
regular ammo).

The Bolivar is mostly used in defensive roles, as its power system limits
the amount of time it can spend away from supply lines. The Bolivar saw
action most recently along the Mexican/Texas border when American INS
forces made a preemptive strike into Mexican territory. Mexican forces

The entry of the Mk. 500XL in the tourney is to celebrate the 2000th
corporate anniversary, and to increase DenVark Industries brand recognition.
Mech is painted flat black with DVI logo in white on the twin shoulder
shields and across the chest. The lettering Mk. 500XL is in bright red script
across the back and on the shoulder shields. In small crude gray lettering on
the entry hatch is written "Kick Ass". No one is sure exactly who put it there.
This was the base Mk.500XL. Note the lack of an E-Seat. The current
version is the Mk.500XL(B),the third revision, and the proposed C variant
is undergoing evaluation. The A version differs only slightly in that E-Seats
and a Stereo were added, and the IA was reprogrammed. The B version has a slightly
altered weapon suite, and the proposed C version is said to be a dramatic departure
from the earlier versions, with a completely revised weapon suite, and a
new form of shielding.

Notes: The VF-100I Minuteman is the premier starfighter of the Rim
Territories Navy, and also its premier combat mecha. It has many
capabilities that make it much more versatile than most designs,
including transformation capabilities to give it a full range of
possible operating environments. Standard loadout includes the
centreline-mounted FR-100 flechette rifle, which feeds off of a
10-shot magazine while the mecha is configured in humanoid mode and
a 100-shot internal reservoir while it is in aircraft configuration,
plus eight AIM-277 Mongoose medium-range image-recognition air-to-air
missiles.
Development: The VF-100 was contracted in late 2580 after the Paris Air
Show rollout of the Central Sectors Navy's XFT.37A Protector transfighter.
The machine went from the proof-of-concept VX-92 (nicknamed "Werewolf" by
its flight crews) to the prototype YVF-100 to the production VF-100A in
less than three years, beating the Protector into main line service by two
years. Originally ordered as an austere space-superiority fighter with the
ability to transform into a light combat mecha, the VF-100A was the most
agile of the breed. Since then, the design has suffered a creeping weight
gain (from 15 tons in the original production mecha to twenty-five tons for
the most recent model), at a trade-off of increased design efficiency.
The current variant, the VF-100I/J, has replaced the non-transformable F-99
Freejack in all roles except light interdiction. The fact can not be
escaped that for that role, numbers count significantly more than quality,
and three Freejacks can be produced for one Minuteman. The VF-100 is
produced in two concurrent variants: one single-seat space superiority
variant and one twin-seat utility/combat variant.

Notes:
The Freeman is the Rim's primary single-mode fighter mechaarmor (thus the
"MF" designation). Its primary purposes are point defense (within 50
kilometers of capital ships) and planetary strike. It has three secondary
variants:
MF-115F-A: AWACS variant. All weapons are stripped out of the hull in favor
of a large Radome containing a powerful spotting radar. The Command Armor's
2x2x20K missiles are replaced with a pair of 10-shot 4K dogfighting missile
launchers.
MF-115F-E: Electronic Warfare variant. The Binder-mounted Twin Laser and
SRM pod are removed and replaced by a small yet potent ECM system, using the
flat surfaces of the binder as generating antennae. The systems are Value 5
Missile, Radar and Sensor Jamming and Value 5 ECCM. The head is also
expanded to accomodate a second crewman, who acts as both navigator and
defensive systems operator (Missile Jamming and ECCM), while the pilot
doubles as the OSO (Offensive Systems Operator, also called the "bear" - "el

Notes: As you can see above, the US Navy got the deal of Aviation History on
the F-14 Tomcat - less than 40% what the plane should have cost! (the other
estimates are very close to the planes' actual price, so...)
Considering the F-14 Tomcat's proven effectiveness, it's surprising that
it has had to battle for its existence. The plane got its name when the late
Vice Admiral Thomas Connolly, in response to questions about the airworthiness
of the (lousy) F-111B naval fighter, "All the thrust in Christendom couldn't
get that plane in the air." He lost his chance at a fourth star, but gained a
namesake, and the Tomcat, nicknamed the "Turkey" for its huge size, has
acquitted itself well, racking up a very solid kill ratio during its two-and-
a-half decades of US Navy service. The F-14 Tomcat is used by the United
States and Iran.
If this excellent warplane has any drawbacks, they are in its low-thrust
engines. The F-14 started life with the same TF30 powerplants as the twice-
as-heavy F-111. This was later fixed in the F-14A+, B and D variants by the
installation of the 27,000 lbf. F110-400 engine, a navalized version of one
of the main powerplants of the F-16 Fighting Falcon (q.v.)

Notes: The F-15 Eagle is a classic air-superiority fighter, designed "with
not a pound for air-to-ground." Despite this rhymed purpose, the Eagle,
also called the "Ego," is sometimes used as a light bomber, its four AMRAAM
missiles traded out for 6,000 pounds of bombs. However, the Ego isn't a
great bomber, see the "Beagle" below. The Ego has an unblemished 90-0
record, with first blood for an American Eagle pilot coming on the opening

Notes: The US Air Force's premier air superiority fighter since its
deployment in 1975, the F-15 has had a significant facelift since then. The
single-seat version of the Eagle is still in service, but the version used by
Section Seven was the twin-seat multirole version of the Eagle, the F-15E
Strike Eagle. There are actually two versions of the twin-seat Eagle: the
Strike Eagle and the F-15D, which is merely a modified F-15C Eagle with two
seats used as a trainer. The Strike Eagle is often called the 'Beagle' (a
contraction of 'Bomber Eagle,') or the 'Mud Eagle.' F-16 Viper pilots call
the Strike Eagle the 'Mud Hen.' The Beagle was one of four airplanes in
Desert Storm responsible for dropping unguided "iron bombs," (500 lb. Mk82s
and 2,000 lb. Mk84s) and except for the huge B-52 BUFF dropped more iron than
any other plane in the Gulf War. The Beagle can't exceed Mach One fully
loaded. The F-15E is used only by the United States Air Force. The F-15E
Strike Eagle will completely replace the Air Force's inventory of F-111
Aardvarks by the 2010s.

Notes: The F-16 Fighting Falcon (better known as the Falcon or the Viper,
Electric Jet was probably made up by the writers of Iron Eagle) has a history
dating back to the early development of the Grumman F-14 Tomcat and McDonnell
Douglas F-15 Eagle. When the Pentagon was looking at the price tags of the
earlier aircraft, they realized that they wouldn't be able to replace all
2,500 of the Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps's F-4 Phantom IIs with the
F-14 and F-15 (final production runs 590 and 770 aircraft respectively). To
make up the difference, the Pentagon called a Light Weight Fighter (later
Multi-Role Fighter) flyoff, between Northrop Aircraft and General Dynamics.
General Dynamics's YF-16 Fighting Falcon flew first, with the Northrop YF-17
Cobra, a light fighter designed to replace their aging F-5 Freedom Fighter
and F-5E Tiger II on the international market, following soon after. The
YF-16, a single-engined plane with a pair of Sidewinder missile rails and a
500-round M61A1 gatling cannon, won over the Air Force. After the
competition, the Air Force, extremely impressed with the little airplane,
changed the requirement for General Dynamics: they wanted an all-weather
light interceptor capable of outperforming the bigger F-15 Eagle. What they
got was one of the finest combat aircraft ever built: the F-16 "Viper" is
almost as fast as the Eagle, can carry the same air-to-air load (four
Sidewinders and four Sparrows, or later up to eight AMRAAMS - the AMRAAM has
a smaller diameter than the Sparrow and can fit on a Sidewinder rail, but
only half the Eagle's gun ammo). What's more, the Viper is a fantastic mud-
mover, capable of carrying up to 8,000 lb. of "iron bombs" or up to 12
Maverick missiles while still carrying four air-to-air missiles (in fact,
the F-16 never leaves the ground without a Sidewinder on each wingtip rail,
except for the Navy's F-16N Top Gun aggressor plane, which is unarmed. Even
the RF-16 carries some armament). Sixteen nations worldwide use the F-16,
including (obviously) the United States of America.

Notes: After losing the LWF competition to the F-16 Fighting Falcon,
Northrop's YF-17A Cobra has done very well. The Navy, more impressed with
the twin-engine Northrop prototype than the single-engined General Dynamics
plane, asked Northrop to produce a squadron of prototypes with McDonnell
Douglas, a company with experience in building carrier planes. The result
was the larger, heavier, and more capable YF-18 Hornet. Originally ordered
as a two-airframe deal (the fighter F-18 and attack A-18), the Department of
the Navy decided to order both roles in one airframe (thus the Hornet's
unique "F/A" designation). Ironically, the F-16 "Viper" now hauls more iron
than the F/A-18 Hornet, which has been plagued from its beginning with low
fuel capacity and the badly underpowered General Electric F404 engine,
limiting its top speed and preventing it from cruising at near-sonic
velocities as the F-16 can (its maximum sustainable cruise is around 450-500
mi/h). The new Navy project F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is designed to address
these issues, delivering a stretched Hornet powered by Pratt & Whitney's
35,000 lb. F119-100 engine. The Super Hornet was originally designed to
supplement the F-22 Raptor's naval version, but has been elevated into the
position of future air superiority fighter by the Department of the Navy,
replacing the highly capable F-14 Tomcat (another great airplane undermined
by weak engines), with the JSF (F/A-25 or F/A-26) replacing the Hornet in the
strike fighter role.

Notes: The F-22A Raptor (originally the YF-22 Lightning II) is the Air
Force's next-generation air superiority fighter. It combines high
maneuverability, stealthy characteristics, supersonic cruise, high warload,
and long range. It was chosen in April 1991 over the YF-23 Black Widow II.
The 440 ordered F-22 Raptors will replace the Air Combat Command's F-15C/D
Eagle. A second aircraft, the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), yet to be
contested, will replace the F-16C/D Fighting Falcon. Rumor has it that the
F-22 will be replaced soon in Section Eight, but what this highly capable
fighter aircraft will be replaced by is a very intriguing question.
The F-22 carries one M61A1 20mm automatic cannon with 1,000 rounds of
ammunition (it doesn't last long, though - on cyclic fire, the M61A1 fires
6,000 rounds per minute!), with eight missile-launch rails mounted internally.
Because of the AIM-120 AMRAAM's smaller diameter as compared to the AIM-7F
Sparrow, each launch rail can carry either an AMRAAM or an AIM-9R Sidewinder
missile. In addition, the Raptor can hang up to 8,000 lb. (3,636 kg) of
ordnance and 1,200 gallons (4920 liters) on up to four external pylons when
stealth is less than necessary.
The Air Force and Navy originally contracted for 700-some F-22A and B
(the latter being a twin-seat aircraft akin to the F-15B/D/E Eagle and Strike
Eagle) each. This was later pared down to 440, and furthermore, the Navy, as
has been their wont since the creation of the Department of Defense (and
their loss of a cabinet-level seat), cancelled their order for the F-22,
replacing it with the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. However, the
Joint Strike Fighter (q.v.) will be ordered by all three services, in a total
number of nearly 3,000 (or about 1,000 aircraft per service). It is
interesting to note that Aviation Week and Space Technology, in a late-July
1997 issue, mistakenly stated that Lockheed had already won the yet-to-be-
held Joint Strike Fighter flyoff between the Lockheed YF/A-24 (here the YF/A-
26) and the Boeing YF/A-25 (here the F/A-25 Brightstar).

Notes: This is Lockheed Martin's next gen answer to the wildly successful
F-16 Fighting Falcon. Unfortunately, the same factors that worked in their
favor for the advanced tactical fighter program (the timely, on-cost delivery
and good performance of the F-117 stealth attack bomber) hurt them in the JSF
program (the F-22 was delivered late and badly over-cost), and as a result,
the YF-26 lost to the winner of the JSF competition, the Boeing/McDonnell
Douglas F/A-25A Brightstar. The YF-26 is not likely to find any niche as an
export fighter, either - it's too much more expensive than the F-16 without a
great increase in performance.

Notes: The Russian Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker is roughly equivalent to the US Air
Force's F-15 Eagle, but was developed from a stretched MiG-29 Fulcrum
airframe. Almost all of the Su-27s in Russian Federation Air Force service
today are "inherited" from the old Soviet Union Air Force, and few of them
actually fly, owing to Russia's currently-depressed economy and the resultant

Notes: The Nimitz-class of aircraft carriers is the most successful class of
surface ship in current use. After five years of refurbishment (FY1992-
FY1997), the first five ships of the class (68 Nimitz, 69 Dwight D. Eisenhower,
70 Carl Vinson, 71 Abraham Lincoln and 72 John F. Kennedy) rejoined the
second five vessels in active service. Of the second five vessels,
completing the first 'decade' of Nimitz-class ships, two (CVN-75 Ronald

Notes: The M-9A Kamen Panzer was the first human-built mecha ever. When the
U.S.S.S. Ares shipped out in 1992, it carried aboard it a full platoon of 20
Kamen Panzers. Sadly, the primitive mecha were unequal to the task of

The Kamen series of battlemovers represent the most powerful man-wearable
weapon systems ever developed by humans. Developed for the United Nations
Space Force, the Kamen series is named for its distinctive sensor suite,

Jager is the greatest advancement of this design concept thus far, although

Notes: The United Nations Defense Force's replacement of the F-22 Raptor, the
Bobcat is the latest in Northrop Grumman's proud line of "Cat" aircraft. The
Bobcat is the first Terran transforming fighter. It adapts the technologies
developed on the Kamen Panzer and Kamen Jager to a larger scale machine (a
mecha on the size of a conventional fighter jet or battle tank). The XF-24's
"Warbird" configuration will make combat helicopters obsolete.
The Russian Mikoyan-Gureyvich MiG-37, NATO codename "Firefly" is an
identical copy of the American YF-24.
The YF-24 carries the proven GAU-12/U 25mm cannon developed with the
F-15 Eagle and first deployed on the AV-8B Harrier, as a rifle-style pod. In
addition, it carries two Sidewinder missiles in each arm and two AMRAAMs in
each leg.
Although afterburners do grant an additional speed advantage in all
configurations, soldier and warbird configurations lack sufficient
aerodynamic streamlining to travel faster than sound, and so are limited to
high subsonic velocities with afterburners activated.

The PDF Talos battle tank made a huge impression on the invading Imperial forces,
in some cases literally. The Imperials were not blind to the obvious advantages
the Talos had and so quickly began work on developing a tank of their own, one of
grand scale. A monster Megatank that would be completely automated, able to be
dropped on a world to wage war on its own. It would be able to plot strategic
assaults, carry them out and be able to repair any damage it might have sustained.
The prototype Hydra megatank was the result, a 400+ ton monster sporting a starship
sized main energy gun and numerous smaller beam guns and close defense plasma
projectors. The Hydra prototype was destroyed on its remote testing world by the
crew of the Gallant, but the plans are still in Imperial databanks, and the Hydra
may yet again grind its way across unsuspecting worlds.

The Psi-Gorgon design was resurrected from the Imperial archives, just like the
psychic Super-Imperials themselves. Only a few of these mecha are kept built on-hand
for use by the few existing Super-Imperials. As a precaution against rebellion
by the Super-Imperials, the powerplant of the Psi-Gorgon may be made shutdown upon
a certain coded command. This command code is given to the commander of any Imperial
force that includes Super-Imperials, and is to be used if the Super-Imperial shows
any signs of instability. Once the Psi-Gorgon is shut down, then the Super-Imperial
can be extracted from the cockpit and either reconditioned or destroyed.

Notes:
The Psycho Rapier was created specifically for the Terran
psychic, Mariko Lim. It is based on the Rapier Five design, with
several significant modifications. The missile packs in the
right arm and torso were removed to free up space, into the right
arm was installed the Terran version of the Imperial psi-enhancer
ESPER lens. The Psycho Rapier retains the variable beam shield
and beam blasters standard to the Rapier Five, but exchanges the
standard beam rifle for a phalanx-capable version. The Psycho Rapier,
being an almost unique mekton, also features a Reflex control system,
similar to the Cosmo Defender Rapier, as well as the experimental
Cyberlink Control System. While not near as expensive as the Cosmo
Defender, the Psycho Rapier is still over double the cost of a
Rapier Five, and so is used only by the PDF's best psychic pilots.

Notes:
The Talos was the main front tank for the PDF when the invasion came.
The Talos was so successful against Imperial mecha that that the Imperials
had to destroy large armor formations from orbit, rather than risk Gorgons
and Medusas. Throughout the occupation, the solid Talos continued to be the
PDF's ace in the hole, and a thorn in the side of the Imperial conquerors.
