Weather Exposure
By

Different extremes in weather and terrain can have an adverse effect on characters and even cause death. When characters are exposed to these harsh conditions they must either have the proper equipment and supplies to deal with it or be able to use the survival skill.

The proper equipment and supplies for a given terrain are up to the game master's discretion.Different extremes in weather and terrain can have an adverse effect on characters and even cause death. If a survival roll is made then any adverse effects can be avoided. The difficulty of this roll is to the game master's discretion.Different extremes in weather and terrain can have an adverse effect on characters and even cause death. The weather exposure table below contains the damage that an exposed character would receive from the terrain type. Hits of damage are listed per day except for vacuum which is per turn of exposure. Hits are to be applied to all locations of the body. Hits are also cumulative for additional complications to exposure such as lack of water and food.

EXAMPLE: A mecha pilot ejects in the desert and does not have survival skill. He is now on the ground with nothing but himself. As long as he is in the desert with no cover, no water, and no food he will take 9 hits a day to all the locations of his body. Basic exposure, 3 hits per day+ No water, 5 hits per day+ No food, 1 hit per day= 9 hits per day.

As is plain to see, under certain circumstances a character might not last too long in the wilds without training and/or equipment.

Below is listed a basic description of the different types of terrain.

Temperate:
Temperate territory is just that. Its territory that is similar to much of North America. Warm in the summer and cold in the winter. With survival skill, a temperate area can provide quite a comfortable existence.

Tropical:
Tropical environments are found in areas near the equator. Jungle, rain forest, etc. all fall into the category of tropical. Tropical areas can pose some serious threat to human being. At the same time, if skilled in survival, a person can etch out a comfortable living.

Desert:
The desert is an extremely dry, desolate place. Far from devoid of life, the life in the desert is very rarely apparent. Deserts can be scorching hot like the Sahara, or bitter cold such as the Gobi desert in China. With the proper training or survival gear, a person can survive in the desert.

Arctic:
Arctic terrain is frigid cold and miserable terrain. Snow, ice, and ripping wind. It is difficult to survive in this sort of terrain but with the proper training it is possible.

Vacuum:
The vast, cold, black, emptiness of space. One cannot survive out there without special equipment. When exposed the blood boils, the veins and arteries rupture, the eyes bulge out of their sockets. Not a pretty sight!
