Retrotech
Retrotech is technology rebuilt using current improvements in technology. In game terms this means building a technology creation from a previous TL to current TL standards without improving the design beyond weight and space.
The TL of any technology in Mekton Zeta is the TL at which it is first introduced. Any technology from lower TLs might be available at higher TLs.
One TL after it first appears, any item of equipment, as well as services, costs half as much. Two TLs after introduction, prices are 1/4 the original cost. There is no further reduction in price unless specified for a particular device.
(This is a modified rule found in GURPS Ultra-Tech, First Edition, Sidebar pg. 5-6.)
Gadgets: Unless specified otherwise, all machines, save weapons, vacc suits and other survival suits or body armor, weigh up to half as much one TL after being introduced and 1/4 as much after 2+ TLs (round down).
Armor: Higher TL versions of armor have increased SP.
Power: All power-cell-using equipment gains shots or increased operating time at higher tech levels; an extra 50% of power for each tech level after the one in which the device was first intoduced. This is because the high-tech cells contain more power. However, many devices also make better use of the power they have available. For weapons, that means they have more shots (not higher damage) and are more powerful!
Weapon Improvements:
Energy Weapons: Energy weapons powered by power cells. This includes all beam weapons, Gauss, and powered melee weapons such as vibroblades and energy swords. For each TL after the types' first appearance, multiply 1.10 per TL to the energy weapon's damage it inflicts and Multiply energy shots by 1.25 per TL after the weapon was introduced (Round down).
Other Weapons: Conventional slugthrowers, chemical, or other firearms do not increase in damage, but advanced amunition types (e.g. heat-seeking bullets) do come into use. Explosive warheads have a 50% increase in damage at TL 9 but after that do not gain in power. Other types of warheads (sonic, nuclear, etc.) become available.
Cybernetechnology:
Author's Note: Cyberpunk® and CyberGeneration® Technology is considered to be TL 8 and TL 8.5 respectfully on the Mekton Zeta Tech Level scale. The Starblade Battalion™ anime campaign supplement is considered to be TL 9 than what it suggest to be as TL 7.5; at least for cybernetics.
Cybertechnology: Cybertech Humanity Cost is cut in half at TL 8.5, 1/4 at TL 9 (Round down), and nothing at TL 9+. Surgery time and cost is cut in half at TL 8.5, and to 1/4 at TL 9+.
[Starblade Terminology: Cybertechnology of pre-tech level 9 is called "dead metal" and tech level 9+ as "live metal". ]
