Determining Rank

Primarily, Mekton campaigns are normally military based. Being such, most of the characters will be in one military or another. The Basic Mekton Zeta system does not give a method of determining what rank a character holds in the military.
This is a system for determining the rank of the characters when they are created.

The chart above lists a promotion schedule for the military professions. When “Promo” is listed for the particular 2 year period spent within the military profession, roll 1d6, if the result is a 1 or 2 then the promotion does not occur. Otherwise the character is promoted to the next higher rank on the chart. Note, for game purposes, it is not suggested that a character not be above the rank of E-7 for enlisted (Seargant Fist Class in contemporary U.S. Army terms.) or O-4 for officers (Major in the U.S. Army). Ranks above these are normally not involved in front line action and therefore would not be good for adventuring. This is of course being based on enlisted ranks ranging from E-1 to E-9 and officer ranks ranging from O-1 to O-10. That can be altered by the game master. The titles of these rank levels are entirely up to the game master. For reference and comparison sake I have provided a list of the rank titles within the U.S. Army here.
