SFX – Radiation Absorption
This is one solution for game worlds where radiation shielding hasn’t been invented yet. It requires the multipliers of Radiation Environmental Protection and Weight Inefficiency.
Radiation Absorption SFX uses a super-metal called, neo-lead, which is created through advanced nanotechnology with the base metal of lead.
The super-metal, n
eo-lead, accomplishes Radiation Absorption by temporarily absorbing radiation. Neo-lead’s efficiency to absorb radiation depends on when the material was created. Tech Level 7 or less, neo-lead absorbs 30% of radiation, at TL 8, it absorbs 60% of radiation, and at TL 9 plus, it provides a 90% absorption rate.Since neo-lead by it’s nature, being also a very heavy alloy, anything constructed with neo-lead is much heavier than it should; hence the Weight Inefficiency.
Mekton Component Design:
- Weight Inefficiency [-x0.2]: The metal neo-lead makes a mek twice as heavy than normal.
- Radiation Environmental Protection [x0.2]: An advanced adaptation of EM Environmental Protection that not just protects the mecha against strong electro-magnetic forces, but allows it to work for extended periods under those forces.
SFX Time Restrictions:
- Between jobs, constructs of neo-lead must have ½ as much time to “de-radiate” as it did to get radiated in the first place.
- Since safety protocols state that a Pilot can be exposed only up to 50 Rads at a time the operating time of a neo-lead construct is limited by the exposure of Rads minus the neo-lead’s efficiency. (Example: At TL9, neo-lead absorbs 90% of incoming Rads, so in a 50 Rads per hour exposure environment a Pilot can operate up to 10 hours instead of one.)
