Proportional Armor
Ever notice the huge armor advantages tanks, or for that matter, any one or two servo mecha has over a humanoid mekton? Tanks get advantage enough just by the +2SP inherent to their form, and they and all other designs with a small number of servos will have more kills per servo than a similar cost mekton, which gives them a great advantage if using G-Factor, and also allows them to mount heavier armor plating. Supposedly, a mekton has a greater number of servos, giving it a somewhat dubious advantage in limiting catastrophic attacks, but I for one, don't see this as balancing the disadvantages. In the interests of maintaining game balance in the campaigns I run, I have adopted this somewhat unfinished system. If someone else has already come up with something like this, please notify me, as would hate to steal anyone's thunder.
Proportional Armor: To determine the weight and CP cost of the armor for a servo section, multiply the SP of the Armor (in Kills) by the CP of the servo, then devide the product by [(SP of armor)+10]. This gives both the cost and mass (already in tons, do not devide by two) of the armor. Refined Armor, Ram, Scaled Armor, etc., all affect this CP value as normal.
This seems to be a much more balanced system in my mind. After all, it stands to reason that larger servos would require more material to arrive at the same armor protection. As for the value I divide the SPxCP product by, it is a simple convention that is both easy to remember and arrives at armor mass reasonably close to that of mektons built using the standard system, allowing coversion without chaning their original characteristics to a great degree.
