Cultural Technology Levels
Cultural Technology is an optional rule which is an attempt to make Tech Levels less generalized and more specialized to separate fields of knowledge, place legal issues to TL, and therefore making Mekton a little more realistic and varied for play.
Fields of Technology [FT]: In reality there is an almost infinite number of fields of technology, but most can be classified under a general heading like the following:
- Aquatic Equipment
- Computer Equipment
- Exploration and Survival Gear
- Communication Equipment
- Medical Equipment
- Personal Conveniences
- Police and Security Equipment
- Space/Time Distortion Equipment (9+ TL)
- Sensory and Scientific Equipment
- Thief/Spy Gadgetry
- Utility Tools
- Environmental Equipment
- Vehicles
- Mechas
- Weapon and Armor Accessories
- Cybernetics
- Armor and Force Screens
Tech Legality Class [TLC]: This tells how likely the tech is to be legally available. In general TLC 0 items are available with no questions asked while TLC 10+ can be a federal offense to own such tech in a culture.
Tech Variation Types [TVT]: Tech Variation Types helps to define not only the workmanship, but how reliable and expensive differences in consumer class variations. There are mainly two main headings, Civilian Variation Types, and Military Variation Types. Civilian VT is of course Tech made for Civilians and thusly Military VT is made for the Military. Each of the two main headings have three subheadings unique to each in purpose, but similar by in class.
TL Modifier: TL Modifier is the starting TL for each of the Variation Type classes.
TL Cost Modifier: TL Cost Modifier is the difference of value for each of the Variation Type classes.
Debugging Percentage: Debugging Percentile of a Tech Variation Type just tells how much a Technology is understood with all the unwanted kinks being worked out. The higher the percentage the more reliable the Tech is and less prone failure.
Civilian Variation Types TL Modifiers TL Cost Modifier Debugged Percentile Commercial Tech -1 TL x0.75, x0.5 for any TL below this mark. 90%, +2% for each TL below this mark. Industrial Tech TL x1.0 85 % Research Tech +1 TL x1.5, x2.5 accumulative for any TL above this mark. 70%, -5% for each TL above this mark. Military Variation Types Military Standard TL x1.2, x1.0 for any TL below this mark. 95%, +2% for each TL below this mark Military Advanced +1 TL x2.0 75% Military Research +2 TL x3.0, x5.0 accumulative for any TL above this mark. 55%, -5% for each TL above this mark. Commercial Tech: Civilian Tech that is the most common Tech around and is used mostly in the home, small business, or for light industrial use.
Industrial Tech: Civilian Tech used mostly for the rich, big business or heavy industrial use.
Research Tech: Civilian Prototypes and Advanced Industrial Tech is classified in this subheading.
Military Standard: Military standard tech used for light, low, and/or extensive military use.
