Back Blast
By Jim Hunsinger
Any missile launcher, rocket launcher, or recoilless rifle creates what is known as back-blast when fired. Back-blast is the exhaust and concussive force caused by the firing of these weapons that extends behind the weapon. The range of the back-blast can vary greatly depending on the weapon. For simplicities sake I have made back-blast effects extend for 5 meters behind the weapon.
Anyone caught in the back-blast of a weapon and not under cover or inside a vehicle etc. will receive 25% of the weapons actual damage. Round all damage down to the nearest whole number. i.e. if a character gets caught in the back-blast of a 5 kill weapon that character would receive 1 kill of damage. (5 x .25 = 1.25 rounded down = 1 kill). Any damage below 1 kill should be broken down into hits for humans or aliens and mecha would not be hurt at all in this case. All back-blast damage is considered area effect damage. If a character is in a vehicle or under cover then they will not be effected by the back-blast. If however, a weapon with back-blast is fired in a confined space such as out the window of a small room, then the back-blast damage is doubled to all inside the room.
